Elle....add this one to your "cheap" watch list...nice play in the $5's
There hasn't been much in the way of corporate news flow this morning. However, apparel and accessories retailer Hot Topic (HOTT 6.31, -0.24) reported for its latest quarter earnings of $0.18 per share, which was in-line with Wall Street's expectations. However, the company reported that it expects a modest loss for its first fiscal quarter.

Trading volume analysis -- NYSE & NASDAQ total trading volume very light compared to yesterday's midday tally (SPY) : Both primary exchanges are displaying very light volume are participation appears limited today with price languishing in the middle of today's narrow range. After yesterday's 'bullish accumulation' price/volume pattern relationship, it appears that mutual funds & hedge funds remain on the sidelines thus far, even as the index futures begin their roll out of the Mar. expiration & into the Jun. expiration. As of 12:30p.m. ET, nearly 414M shares have changed hands on NYSE vs. 567.7M yesterday, a 25% decline, while over on NASDAQ, 1.08B shares have traded vs. yesterday's 1.28B total at this point, a 16% decline.

This begs the question about Squirrels. Small and furry creatures. They seem to like small cap stocks which they store like nuts in secure places. All over the place. WAHhhahahahahahah......................................................wait, that's true.

Merrill is the mystery man. He doesn't have an avatar, so we have no window into his soul.

I used to have a bunch of C, but sold half in 5's and other half low 4's, just dead money...........................hm, now what stock I currently own does that remind me of?
C fib 61.8 is 4.55, so good to there I'd think, but this may finally be the move that gets it above 5 and holds it there.

So looks like I'm going to have to do this Vxx on my own. I feel I have the right concept but the vehicle is worrisome. I'm going to stick it out a while longer. I think Opex might open it up. I do like that it's now 2x the underlying although why is a complete puzzle.
(I stuck it in one of the retirement accounts and it's therefore a 3+ trade. If it were more liquid I might rethink this. Interesting, it's in an ccount with DDSS and the same account (of 5 that I use) where I have previously traded SRS. In other words, there is hex on that account).

UUP - I think it has perhaps fallen in love with its 20dma. That's why they have spent so much time together in recent days. I don't like the way the indicators (macd, rsi, etc) are all weakening. I'm going to focus instead on price and here it looks very bullish with the dmas all stacked up in the proper order, shortest to longest from top to bottom. There's a risk that we revisit the 50dma at 23.35 but I suspect some further screw up in the Euro will send the DX higher before too long, especially with tough talk out of the Fed.

Trade remains lackluster and the major indices are still down with modest losses. The subdued mood shows in this session's lack of trading volume, which is unlikely to surpass 1 billion shares at its current pace. DJ30 -10.43 NASDAQ -3.76 SP500 -1.57 NASDAQ Adv/Vol/Dec 1075/1.32 bln/1519 NYSE Adv/Vol/Dec 1355/546 mln/1610
Results from a $13 billion auction of 30-year Bonds were released at 1:00 PM ET. The auction took a surprisingly good turn with buyers chasing the yield lower to 4.68% in an effort to grab the longer duration issue. The large chunk that went to the direct bidders was a record level, while indirects got significantly less-than-average at 23.9%. The auction's bid-to-cover ratio hit 2.89, which was well above the recent average of 2.47.

Consumer discretionary stocks make up the only major sector to trade with a gain. They are up just 0.1%, though.
Financials had been a relative leader earlier in the session, but the sector has since faltered. It is now in negative territory with a fractional loss. AIG (AIG 35.81, -0.43), which has been a primary leader among financials during recent sessions, has rolled over from a fourth-month high to trade in the red. Volume behind the stock is expanding. DJ30 -7.63 NASDAQ -3.99 SP500 -1.88 NASDAQ Adv/Vol/Dec 1035/1.45 bln/1568 NYSE Adv/Vol/Dec 1342/590 mln/1627

Carl - All in all it looks like the ES is preparing for a move to new rally highs (above 1143.25 in the June contract). I think we shall probably see a 1149 print. But I also think a 25 point break is imminent and is likely to start shortly after the market establishes this new rally high.

I think Carl is probably going to be right- we make a new high and then correct. The DX is trading lower, Vix is flat on the day and on the lod and a triangle consolidation on low volume after a series of rises probably suggests a pop to the upside. I also think this seriously undermines the most shorts making an eventual reverse easier and more profitable for the MMs.
