Gold stocks - what kind of bull market let's investors in so easily? The trend is up but it's spending a lot of time at the lower rail and below its 20+50dma. Any strong views here? Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Morning high at tick +1100; low at tick -1200. Now back at +1100 (new hod). Spy above vwap. But breadth is not healthy; vol is strong (1.5:1 pos on Nq) but issues is 2:1 neg on Ny and Nq. This is a super important zone for both short and long. We are at the top-end of the zone I am watching 1060-1080. Waiting to see which side breaks with conviction... Makes sense that things look strange, lack of commitment to both either side. Euro at hod-ish...VIX macd rolling over (maybe) lol!!!

My pt with these two charts is that safety (gold) is weakening and risk (fins) is strengthening. Both are at either the pt of confirmation or reversal. Show me.

From optionmonster.com.....................GLTA How earnings season is shaping upJuly 12, 2010 Mon 12:01 PM CT The graphic posted here shows how it's possible to look at the potential "shape" of this earnings season by tallying the number of companies reporting on a daily basis. The degree of price movement in the indexes tends to follow the peaks and troughs of the number of companies reporting. What I am looking at here are the totals of names in the S&P 1500 and the Nasdaq 100 combined. This covers the bulk of the universe of stocks that will matter most in pushing the indexes around. Uploaded with ImageShack.usAs is apparent from the graph, this week is extremely light by comparison to the next three weeks. After that third week out from this one, the reports drop off dramatically once again. Next week 313 companies will report, while the peak is in the following week at 465, with a drop down to 368 the next. After that the numbers drop dramatically to 64. This particular earnings reporting season tends to be much more compressed than others, with the first-quarter season being the one that extends the longest. That compression can exacerbate price swings and volatility because traders have relatively little time to adjust to new information.

Formulated portfolio hedging at times is very complex and runs across various asset classes. That trader could just as easily be set up to profit from gold going down as it going up.

This failure constitutes the third time it tried (and failed).
What are the odds of breaking thru at this point? Is there a rule of thumb in regard to "testing" like this backed up by solid experiential data?
(tongue in cheek here...)
