Baby bear tomorrow. Bigger bear Tuesday if Alcoa disappoints with poor guidance after Monday's close. Rounded top forming on daily for past two weeks. I can't look back anytime recently and see where we formed that and then broke out upside. I think earnings season has investors nervous. More specifically forward guidance. What do banks have to look forward to aside from investment income? High oil, as I recall, does not increase consumers' borrowing. And many other companies will likely show caution going forward as they see increased transport (and for some, manufacturing) costs cutting into margins and softening consumer demand. Not every company will be affected, so there will be an occasional spurt upwards, but I expect it to be sold into. I have said it before- high oil will kill this rally. There is a psychological effect on most consumers when gasoline supasses $4/gal that is probably greater than the amount it actually affects their household budgets, and most Americans are still recocvering from 2009. Last I checked, housing and jobs had not recovered yet. Consumers will soon begin pulling back, and many companies likely see this and will be cautious in their forward guidance. We will soon see. Good thing is, I'm usually wrong, and probably too bearish. GL all! P.S.- Morning gap-ups = Better hope dem futures drop a little overnight!
