The Story of FastopiaJuly 7, 2009 6:29 pm <Sanjaybu> (ORIGINAL THREAD NOW DELETED) he had posted it in a different thread first before making it its own: messages.finance.yahoo.com/Business_%26_Finance/Investments/Stocks_%28A_to_Z%29/Stocks_D/threadview?bn=87811&tid=308196&mid=308318Once upon a time, a group of people decided it would be a good idea to create a country. The creation was simple - they marked their territory, and claimed their ground. However, over the ensuing months to years, they faced many hardships - difficulty with invaders, civil war, famine. But it made them stronger. Then one day, they figured everything out, and with their new found strength, they rallied and created a prosperous nation. All were happy, well fed, and at peace. Reality would soon set in, however, and the greater forces, that had been at work longer than their new country, would once again move in, showing their power. The invaders burned down houses and ruined many of the lives that had been created. The country was decimated... Tumbleweeds began to blow across the town. Yet, the people held on. And that is where the story ends for now. I do not know the next chapter to Fastopia.

The funny thing about this is that I wanted to see what came up on a Google search of "Fastopia." Sanjay's was the main hit (one of only 2 related to the FAS board).
The Story of Fastopia has taken a new turn with this board.

The Story of Fastopia has taken a new turn with this board. I remember when some guy's blog picked up the Fastopia story and started publishing it. At least a few of us went over and called him a plagiarist. It was taken down the next day. You are correct, Bros, we launched our Battlestar Galactica fleet, and found a new home.

Next thing you know, we'll be in the Wiki...People on the street will mention our name.
It's a movement.

Next thing you know, we'll be in the Wiki...People on the street will mention our name. It's a movement. No question the board is a hit. Look at how many views/members we have in only 2 days. I'm a part of a few different message boards, and this one is already just as (if not more) active as those that have even thousands of members.

Jack, on YMB, a post can get deleted if you request it using the Support system, or a post can get deleted if enough accounts hit the Report Abuse and flag it as something like Spam, Advertising, Harrassment, etc. I will check with Sanjay and see if he got an email from Yahoo similar to yours.

Well, you can view a cached version since it's the first hit that comes up on Google for "Fastopia" but I can't get to any of the replies.
That sucks it was quite a thread. Can someone email Yahoo and try to get it undeleted or something?

Watching the Olympics, I am continually reminded of our national anthem (stolen by that new upstart country, Canada) The music - www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/ceem-cced/symbl/MP3/O-Canada-Inst.MP3Let us remove our caps and rise as we sing "O, Fastopia" O Fastopia! Our stock, our vir-tu’l land, True legal tender love thou dost in us command. We see thee rising lines, dear trend, A bull market strong and free; And stand our ground, O Fastopia, We set our stops for thee. Refrain O Fastopia! ‘Neath thy shooting stars. O Fastopia! A hope for all who trade, O Fastopia! Thou art our land….Fas-to-pi-a!

Slowly the Langoliers chomp away at the remaining bits of what was FAStopia past.
I didn't like the Langoliers when I read about them 30 years ago. I like them even less in real life.

Having seen a decent harvest through October of 2009, Fastopia was content. After a brief holiday rally, where the traders of Fastopia did well, clouds formed on the horizon.
Trading markets had turned to sell side for a correction. But even worse, a darkness had crept into Fastopia. Unbeknown to the residents, Evil had set up shop.
The Evil unleashed it's full fury in early January. Attack after attack was launched, and defenses weakened. The evil insiders, now referred to as Prawn, were using Fastopia's antiquated defense mechanisms against itself, and little by little residents began looking far past the edges of town, past Fazistan on the border, and off into uncharted territory.
A scroll was circulated, people made their mark indicating a desire for new lands to be found and cultivated. On February 15, 2010, a new Fastopia was settled. New shops quickly sprung up and spirits were rekindled.
The Fastopia traders found wealth in their new lands. Markets turned favorable. Old friends Fastopia had not heard from returned. New friends emerged. The new currency was a success, and Karma, the foundation of all things Fastopian flowed freely.
Darkness attempted to penetrate the new lands. Not content with the burned village (part of Fastopian Scorched Earth Policy # 3) that was left behind (now officially designated District 9)... the Great Karma War of 2010 was launched.
Inspired by the return of the Commish to christen the new Fastopia, the village successfully turned away the invaders by implementing the Karma Redevelopment Act of March 2010. All was well again.
I do not know the next chapter of Fastopia...

Homegrown terrorists are our next major threat...like JihadJane....must be always vigilant:
"For some must watch, while others must sleep. So runs the (Farstopian) world away." (Shakespeare sorta)

(Shakespeare sorta) I saw the sheriff ran that one guy out of town. I can only guess he was the perpetrator behind the concerted smites. The story of Fastopia always reminds me of the Stand. I liken Cosmic to Stu (played by Gary Sinese).
