Thanks Tender, I hope you wish is granted. I have been away from the board for awhile recently and haven't found my way to the new board yet.

Tender, a brief story from my past life:
We had an email system to reach our 'remote sites' and it was a very antiquated piece of software, DOS-based, ran over B-Sat so it was very slow, but it worked most of the time. (This was in the late 90's). There was an initiative to upgrade, put in something state of the art like Exchange or Notes, but it was getting pushback from the unions. Site Managers were the ultimate authority and email undermined it. The DOS-based email was primarily for file delivery and that could stay, they stated.
Eventually however the need to communicate seamlessly became more and more necessary, and existing systems were not suitable.
I stood up and defended the existing systems back then because I didn't take the time to see the bigger picture. And then when I did see it, I still hesitated.
Not this time. ;D

Resistance is futile! Okay seriously go over to rant finance and accept my friendship request please? I feel like I'm the only one, or one of a few, who might say this. Lord knows we all appreciate the work done on the new site. However, I do not feel it is ready to launch after only a week of beta. I've spent quite a bit of time cultivating resources that are useful to me during the trading day. At this point, the new board in its current state is not one of those. I know the theory is probably that if we all go there, we'll learn how to navigate it better and get used to it. Also that it will perhaps be a better way to iron out kinks or make changes. I have lots of websites and some message boards that I frequent, and I haven't found any of them particularly difficult to navigate from the get-go. The Proboards interface is clear and straightforward. I strongly feel the new site needs to use message board software that functions like the software here. I don't know if it's free or not, I see something called vbulletin used a lot, show how much I know lol. The website in its current incarnation slows down my day and trading, and makes things more difficult for me rather than easier or better. Can we not continue to beta test for another few weeks? Trust me, I wouldn't post this at risk of offending someone if I didn't feel so intensely about this, and apologies indeed if anyone is offended.

If you think we are not listening to feedback or that we are not doing anything or working on anything, you are sorely mistaken - don't know what else to say on that.
If we're not doing anything, I don't know what I've been doing from morning to night for the last few months. I guess just twiddling my thumbs ;D

This site here at proboards as we see it today is the result of tons of changes behind the scenes by Cos over a span of years. Nothing is perfect from day 1, or even day 365 or day 730. The point will always be to improve. Bringing Fastopian values in as the backbone are instrumental in it all - without all the time and effort of everyone here, Fastopia 1.0, 2.0, and now 3.0 with an eye on the future wouldn't even be able to exist. What is going to happen is a tribute to everyone. I'm excited for the chance to get more members, more traders, more ideas. Just as this place here expanded to see vocal members that weren't around (or vocal) on the YMBs, we will see the same sort of evolution on the new board. But no matter how many new folks we get, Fastopians will never lose their voice or their FoundingFather/Mother status. There are things planned

I feel agnostic about it, this board seems fine for me to check in and test the sentiment about the market among you guys, opinions I take as seriously as anyone's. Maybe the new site will be great. Don't know, haven't given it a chance.
If it is really about a few securing their own equity stake in Fastopia for greater gain, and it has that slick corporate feel rather than the underground rebellious feel of this board, I personally will not like it.
Can you believe that I woke up around 2 am last night to get a drink, and this board closing was on my mind? Good grief I know I need to get a life, I am becoming pathetic.

No, you are not pathetic - I was up at 4 and couldn't sleep also. Granted, we had a big storm and too much coffee, but Fastopia closing kept me up. All of us who remain have liked it here this whole time, but many have left. I see why we need to change.

Tender I respect and value you. Please...That's about as responsiive as the response to feedback on the new site, sadly. I don't see any visible changes being made despite tons of feedback. Maybe there are things I'm not aware of. CHANGES ARE BEING MADE, HERE'S JUST ONE EXAMPLE. MAXI ASKED FOR THE TRADING FLOOR AND OTHER COMMONLY USED LINKS TO BE PUT ON THE HOME PAGE. THEY ARE THERE NOW, PROMINENTLY.I believe we are sacrificing clarity for the sake of going commercial. I'm sure the stakeholders in Rant are excited in hopes of one day going public. I'm sure the bloggers and writers are excited to get pay per click revenues. THE MODERATORS & REGULAR THREAD POSTERS HERE HAVE WORKED FOR FREE FOR YEARS AND DESERVE PAY IF THEY CAN GET IT & WANT IT. I AS A BLOGGER DON'T EXPECT TO MAKE MUCH MONEY, I'M DOING IT FOR THE FUNThat excitement is getting in the way of actually creating a site that would be conducive to those things, in my opinion. I am truly saddened by the seeming lack of active response to feedback. If you think that creating a new site that has no interest to me at this time is really an enterprise functioning as well as it should, you should probably consider listening more closely. BE SPECIFIC AND PRODUCTIVE IN YOUR FEEDBACK. IF IT'S A DIFFICULT ITEM, BE PATIENTWho owns this board? Do you own it, Cos? Or do the Fastopian citizens own it. Because I am willing to take it over. THIS BOARD WAS A COMMUNITY BASED INITIATIVE AND A VOLUNTEER EFFORT. WHOEVER PUT IT UP HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE IT DOWN, UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY THEM FOR THEIR SERVICES. YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY TO USE RANT AND YOU ARE WELCOME THERE. That's as honest and direct as I can be without getting bitchy.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.......... As I understand it it has to do with how many "hits" your blog gets. There's a whole strategy involved in that, but it certainly has the citizen-on-the-street feel to it.

The thing is Bros, the site's only been open to feedback as far as I know for 1 week. You suggest you've been receiving feedback for the past few months, but I don't think it's been from us. You hard work is appreciated and never in doubt, but hard work doesn't necessary make a website that is useful to me. I really don't think the way to do the launch is one week of beta testing. I felt my feedback was acknowledged, but I see no instances of any of it being acted upon. I am not talking about just listening. I know you have your ideas of how the site could be. Perhaps they extend well beyond its current incarnation. If the site is not appealing to me as an experienced trader with many resources, I would think you would listen more carefully, including my feedback which is that I don't think the site is ready to come out of beta. If you were honestly listening to feedback I don't think I would see such dismissive posts from you and Cosmic. This isn't a personal battle so please try to not take it that way. I am suggesting that if you want a revenue generating website you are probably going to need to have a professional web designer, and not have something in Wordpress, to not use whatever kind of shoutout message format they have, to make access to the message board portion easier to find. When the posts are listed, they need to be listed by topic first rather than author and time. If messages are just posted in the standard window without being made into topics, it's just a hopeless stream of consciousness list of things. When I look at the Fastopia trading board here, I see a couple dozen subject lines on the main page that I can easily select a subject, and see responses, some of which are on topic, and some not. I might read someone's blog, but I don't think posting blog comments is a useful way to communicate as there's little give and take. If you must use Wordpress, you should see if there's a way to get a logon screen that not just the Wordpress default, it looks cheap. I honestly believe that you are letting the excitement of starting a commercial site get in the way of launching a carefully constructed and desirable site that would do better at ultimately attracting the crowd you want to attract. And I also believe that that excitement is getting in the way of you and Cosmic being able to understand how that might be the case. I hope you understand I am not in the business of trying to insult the new site. Per Cosmic's comments, I am the first in my firms to want to upgrade to new software. In its current form, I don't see it as an upgrade. Have to go, might be back in a few hours. Forgivek me if my comments are not written more carefully so as not to offend, I just don't have the time be more careful right now. If you think we are not listening to feedback or that we are not doing anything or working on anything, you are sorely mistaken - don't know what else to say on that. If we're not doing anything, I don't know what I've been doing from morning to night for the last few months. I guess just twiddling my thumbs ;D Tender I will say this as bluntly as I can: Some things you have suggested are either not possible at all OR are not possible to do with a snap of a finger and will take time. Some of them are things we intend to do, some are not. Just as not 100% of everything I want is going to be implemented, not 100% of everything Doug wants is going to be implemented, and not 100% of everything ANYONE wants is going to be implemented, it's always a compromise and we as a group (Fastopian members + Doug and I + non fastopia members + Rant powers that be) are doing things that we think are best for the site. Some things will take time but are surely going to be implemented. The site is not going to look today how it will look next month or next year, that's just the reality of things - and frankly, not one site on the internet that is worth anything stays with its original model from start to finish. You listen, you consider, you adapt. You suggesting that we're being dismissive is not true in the slightest. We just think it's a little funny sometimes when someone thinks we can just snap our fingers on things that take either substantial time and/or resources to apply. If you saw our To Do lists, launch docs, and feedback lists, I don't think you would think that we're just throwing a product out for the "excitement" of it without putting days, weeks, or months of thought into it.

Ya know I was feeling pretty good about today and closing this joint up with all the good natured fun we were having until this discourse.
There will be people who don't like the change; there will be people who do.
Ya can't make everybody happy - you can listen to their input and make a decision one way or the other. Hopefully the input is good and it will be incorporated.
Those who don't like how their input was handled will vote with their keyboard...or not.
a bientot - too nice to be chained inside on a day like this (sunny in mid 60s)

Also Tender, to your point about needing a forum, there is a forum just as we see it today: www.rantfinance.com/forums/There is also a forum for each Group Forum, for example the Trading Floor: www.rantfinance.com/groups/trading-floor/forum/Here is your own Forum Topic on Gold for example: www.rantfinance.com/groups/trading-floor/forum/topic/gold-pulling-back/If you don't like the Activity Stream (of which you can still filter it down to see the things you like), then don't use that. It's not the only way to view things. But just because you don't know exactly where something is or how to get there doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Even here at Proboards, people had an impossible time finding things at first and were confused on anything under the sun from how and where to post messages, how to reply, how to post images, videos, how to put avatars in, etc. We all got there to the point where I think most of us would say those things are easy now. Some people hated this site at first just as I'm sure some people hated Rant the first time they used it. We will get there, we really will. Have some patience.

For all the hardwork that Cos, Bros, and other significant contributors have put in and made Fastopia an awesome community that we all benefited from, could we not repay that favor by giving the creators the benefit of doubt and patience to repeat that success again? I think they've earned our trust.
Change is uncomfortable. But the sooner we embrace it and provide constructive feedback for the developers, the quicker we get to a mature Rant Finance site with all the swag.

Hey Bros, you think that Search button works at rantfinance?
bwahaha
However, I acknowledge that it's rough edges. I remember the puddle I had to drag myself through here to get that smiley thing up above that everyone likes. This page didn't look ANYTHING like it does today.
And what I appreciated, and always will appreciate, is that you believed in ME, that I could get you the things that you wanted.
As your wants evolved, I became incapable because of the extreme limitations here. And it was a personal thing, after all we are forgetting that the prizes that were won were donated from our own wallets. Everything was donated. But as Bros suggested, somebody somewhere could here the register ringing.
So see it for what it is: a chance to have a community we can invest in. The notion that basing it on Wordpress is wrong unfortunately flies in the face of almost every major website you visit today. If you look, you will see that they are wordpress, with lots of nice tweaks. Chicago Trib, LA Times, CNN, and Bros and I even suspect that the original Facebook is a wordpress underpinning. But they have 6 quadrillion dollars and an army.
We will too.
