I've noticed that some folks seem to make a big deal out of these with all sorts of conspiracy theories as to what causes them. They've never really meant much to me and I generally just ignore them but I saw this one the other day and got to wondering... Where do these come from? Just after the close last Thursday an order went through for 100,000 SPY @ $138.87. The day's low was $139.27, and SPY hadn't traded that low in 15 days. Who would sell $13.8M worth of SPY $.80 cents beneath the bid? I'm used to seeing these pop up in AH that are within either the current day or previous day's range, but this one caught my eye since SPY hadn't been anywhere near $138.87 last week.
