As we fly into Tax Week everyone becomes mindful of exactly how our system is structured. Hopefully today was just selling to cover the bill to Uncle Sam. I would expect similar results all week. Maybe it's taxes, maybe it's Europe again, maybe it's jobs, maybe its... 32 weeks of straight up with Ben running the printers dry. Let's find out together ;D Added some DRN to a previous position today Hopefully everyone is visiting the new place and checking things out. And as always, I hope everyone made some money today and will do so tomorrow. Members please post your results along with your RDA of smileys!

LVS up 3+% (new high) on a down market day. Can't complain at all.
Bought back ERX covered calls for a net gain of just under $7.00 a contract. I am now long ERX unhedged.
Really excited about Rant Finance! Good job Brosin and Cosmic!

I paid $438.30 to clear up a 12 year old traffic ticket for driving 2mph over the speed limit (67 in a 65) Then I spent ~5hrs in line to get a new registration sticker for my truck. $643.03 State of Texas gained ~$1080+ off me today.

I feel for Homey. Most people only find out about unpaid stuff the worst way which is a warrant. I've heard it said that MOST people don't even know there's one on them until it's too late.
The fees are a joke.
South Florida created Sunpass which is an open road tolling system and implemented it wholesale. It's an unconstitutional tax and was implemented as only a sleepy southern state could -- the worst way.
If I still drove my old route to the office everyday it would cost me $4 each way so $8 per day in tolls. So $1600 PER YEAR was added to my costs as a motorist.
That's a tax. And I have rights. I paid for those freeways once through registrations and fuel taxes.

In any normal city, you wouldn't be ticketed for 2mph over.. and if you were - you could always go to court and fight it or have it dismissed. But this is a town in the middle of nowhere with a population of 5,034. The law works differently there. Chances are the cop that wrote the ticket is the Judge's brother-in-law.

Realized gains on the opening down move.
Unrealized gains on the days' extremely slow and small melt-up - although my gains on longs were definitely better than the S&P's move up from the bottom.
Wondering if "Sell in May and Go Away" just became "Sell in April, If You're Able"

That really blows but somehow I don't think the " I don't even recall getting the ticket..." defense argument would have worked either...
Sorry

Sorry While I realize "I don't recall getting it" wouldn't qualify as a defense argument, I can only remember being in that town once - about 5 years ago for a funeral (and I wasn't even driving). I was apparently also ticketed there 12 years ago for "failure to maintain correct address", which is even more bizarre since at the time I "allegedly" received the citation (2001) I'd had the same address for 6+ years.

Sorry In my town, the idea that you could get a ticket without knowing you got a ticket is the FUNDAMENTAL business principle. Even if you ask if they gave you the ticket they lie and say they didn't. It's an AWESOME setup. And Homey, based on what you've said, a DNA scan of that town might turn up that everyone is related to the judge.

In VA, "most" localities give you 5-7 mph above limit, at least during daylight to ~2100 hrs, then the DUI radar is activated.

It must be some kind of perverted reg/property tax - that blows too.

Texas has no state income tax so the money has to come from somewhere. Isn't tax on gasoline small too? Ours goes up every yr.

It must be some kind of perverted reg/property tax - that blows too. Well, $350 of it was my fault. A law enacted in 2008 allows them to charge $25 for each 30 days that you are late in registering your vehicle.. I was 429 days late. Since the date on the title was written as 2/05/11, my original plan was to stick a "1" before the 2 so that it would read 12/05/11 ;D, that likely would have worked, but my plan was foiled by the fact the title itself was printed on 1/15/11
