I just figured out how we can get around the 3 letter tickers on our search function. If we just copy what StockTwits does which is add a $ (dollar) sign in front then that solves the problem! Like $TIE.

Okay take back that karma Torrie I can't get either $TIE nor $HAL to come up in the search.... What the H. is wrong with that search thing. It should work...... I am going to do a test of TIE$ instead and see if that works

you can use the double up method BACBAC This doesn't work And the $ method doesn't work either - I think Jack tried it about a year ago Easiest thing is probably just to start scrolling back pages and finding relevant threads. If it's so far back that you get bored of scrolling, might as well just start a new one since charts and stuff would probably need to be updated

I'm going to go to the support board and ask them about the Google search that used to be down at the bottom of the page. That used to be a good alternative to the PB search function

Bingo! support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=support&action=display&thread=392688Hi, It wasn't removed through choice. It was removed because a change was made by google which made it not work anymore. When we can make the relevant changes this end, we will add it back. Work around for now: One possible interim solution would be to search on Google itself with your query as normal but, to search your forum, put site:yourboard.proboards.com before your search term. That should essentially perform the same thing as the now-removed box, albeit not neatly integrated.

The services of the librarian were much appreciated. What about a google script like I have seen on other sites?

Okok, there's ANOTHER way
First, Homey gave me a script that I have to test but need to do it late night because it fiddles with the board code.
Second... if you use the traditional Google search from the Google search page (www.google.com), you can limit your return results to include just stuff from Fastopia. Search would be similar to (if looking for BAC info)
BAC site:fastopia.proboards.com
it's that whole site:fastopia.proboards.com thing that makes it work ;D

The services of the librarian were much appreciated. What about a google script like I have seen on other sites? I know this came up when we first moved to proboards. Due to a flaw in the server side search scripts, small words (usually four letters or less) are not searchable. All 'vindictive forces' had to do to crash all of proboards was launch a bunch of zombie computers into searches looking for "the" or "this" or "that" and it would crash proboards. So they literally hobbled the search. It is well known, and we knew it quickly here too. So use the thing I mentioned and it will work. proboards promises a new search for V5 that recently was beta tested by some members and it seems to be much better.
