Morning all
IT - We are in gap window from Jan 19-20. 115.06 closes the gap. Weekly chart likely creating an M or double top. Most short positions are whole now; waiting for 115 for final 1/3 of EDZ,SDS and SRS. Will short USO at 40.5. Big drop is coming; Monday likely a pause day.
Murphy - While small-cap leadership is generally bullish and shows an increase in risk appetite, it also reflects an increase in bullish sentiment. This is confirmed by Mark Hulbert of CBSMarketWatch.com:
Based on the several hundred investment advisers I track, I'd have to say that bullish sentiment is approaching dangerously high levels. Consider the Hulbert Stock Newsletter Sentiment Index (HSNSI), which represents the average recommended stock market exposure among a subset of short term stock market timers tracked by the Hulbert Financial Digest. It currently stands at 62.8%, up from 13.8% just one month ago. That's an awfully big jump for so short a period of time, especially considering that the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose a modest 4.4% over this period. Also worrying is that, with but one exception, the HSNSI is now at its highest level since early 2007, more than three years ago. That one exception, when the HSNSI was higher than it is now, came in early January, two months ago. Soon thereafter, of course, the market entered into its January-February correction, during which the Dow declined by nearly 8%.
Sentiment indicators are hard to use for timing. Excessive bullishness warns that the stock market may be getting too frothy, but we need to use the charts for actual signals. Last week, SPY gapped up three times: Monday, Tuesday, Friday. All three gaps held, which is impressive. The ability to hold these gaps shows strength, not weakness. Look for a move below 112 to fill the last two gaps. Key support remains at 109 for now.
Carl - 1131-1145 today. Now at 1137. He had a great trading week last week.
Oscar - on vacation today; but we can assume he's bull with the move in IWM.

It's very bullish out there!
Vix - 22 month low.
NYMO - 6 month low.
3 unfilled gaps in one week last week. Cobra says we have 15 unfilled gaps in Spy, a new record.
Last week was the biggest one week gain in March since 2002. Out of the last 10 green first weeks in March, the Spx closed green for the month just twice.

Good Morning, Here is your Merrill Morning Minute: Slight FAS bias this morning, holding VXX and ADRs only from prior week Strong volume and break outs from leaders confirmed again we are in a confirmed uptrend From my view point, volume has been hitting near the 10 day average, and the S&P appears to be nearing the other end of its cup handle….where it goes from there is anyone’s guess…but as I mentioned before, w/o the tutes pushing this rally with volume, why would they jump in now and sacrifice the recent 10% gain? Tute participation ratings still stuck on “E” Good work everyone on their analysis and comments on technical levels over the past couple weeks GLTA

Looking at the tick from last Friday when I was out. Looks like it was a market rout all day long. Aside from one tick -500 at 330p there were no ticks below even -300. Combined with an A;D vol >10:1, that was about as lopsided a day as you'll ever see. If I were bearish, I would almost say that it was a capitulation day as buyers dominated. The only hold back is the overall volume was weak. This is quite different from other moves out of the lows that we saw in July and November, both of which were confirmed with volume improvements. Not so here.
I'm puzzled by Vix and Vxx; Vix is up 2%, Vxx is down 1%.

This morning's mood remains subdued as participants sit on strong gains of more than 3% from last week -- the S&P 500 advanced in all five sessions, including an incremental gain midweek. Though there haven't been any economic items to act as catalysts ahead of the opening bell, there have been a few noteworthy items, including news that AIG (AIG) has divested another chunk of its business in further merger and acquisition activity. This time the insurance giant has offloaded its American Life Insurance Company to MetLife (MET) in a $15.5 billion deal. Shares of AIG are up 4.2% to $29.27 each in premarket trade and MET shares are up 4.3% to $40.55 per share in premarket trade. In other corporate news, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) revised lower its previously announced first quarter earnings to $1.07 per share. Its stock price is down 0.7% to $51.66 per share in premarket action. Meanwhile, the dollar remains a focal point of market participants; the greenback is currently down 0.3% against competing currencies

Monique best speech
Good to see Bridges receive his due
Meryl Streep may be the best actress of all time, nothing wrong with being consistant

Morning, everyone. With UK back, what little I had to offer (updates on Carl F) is now amply provided for.
If inspiration strikes, however, you all will be first to know. In the meantime, thanks for all the numbers and discussion so far. Still got the death grip on my bag o' FAS.

DX gap down to start the day. The bull days normally start gap up and then the DX falls all day, supporting the indices. Gap down at least opens the door to a DX rise. But the correlation between the DX and the indices is certainly getting looser.
Merrill - vol should confirm price. It's not. As you pointed out, tutes are not going to buy the break out after the run. Therefore, what fuels the stage two rocket? Can't be a wall of worry if Vix is at a 2 year low!

He used to spend Christmas with us. When she hit the scene in the mid-70's I remember him saying how disappointed he was that she had sold out to the movies instead of sticking to the stage. She did a mean Froken Julie in Stringberg's play. Very happy for his Dudeness.

AKS bounced on it 2/22 pivot high. This is also the 5dma, so two reasons for support. The 20 and 50dmas are bow tied at 22.40, so super S there. Sharp fall usually leads to a sharp counter rally, even if it is short.

UK, great to have you back. I have taken my domestic stock gains off the table, enjoyed the run...concerned that the VXX is not touching the bottom of the BBs yet, and i'm in heavy. really surprised that retail is getting sucked in again...not being a doom sayer, not my style, I don't see a massive drop coming around, but am following rotation and trying to identify where more upside can be captured after the mini correction, will continue to capture quick gains in stocks and not look back on lost opportunity d/t

The Vxx is the Hurt Locker for this thread, I think. What the hell?!
Tick is weak. A lot of hits in the -600's which is a world away from last Friday when there was only one <-300. A:D is slightly positive both NQ and NY.
