(Filling in for Cos) "And then it went..." sideways ;D A nice little whiffle day for most of the weekly options... Although it was on very light volume today, we saw the 2nd highest close of the rally (Oct 18 saw 1185 close). Overall, I think it was a good sign that the market held up relatively strongly this week and closed not much off its 5 month high (1189) even with the Tuesday Flash Crash II fears. The VIX plummetted to close at an almost 6 month closing low (Apr 29, 2010 was the last close lower). I do think we are at a point where both sides want to be relatively cautious as it is that kind of volatility that often precedes the start to moves. For now and perhaps another week, however, it appears that 'up we go' remains in play. Hope everyone made some money today and will do so next week. Enjoy your weekends everyone! Members, please post your results along with your RDA of smileys!

Well.... I made a grand total of ten bucks today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty dull market in the face of Bennies POMO. Looking into next week, We could experience some selling with the uncertainly of the elections hanging over our shoulders, we should experience a dollar bounce and some pressure on equities. I am now 100% cash. Well, I hope everyone did better than me today. Have a prosperous weekend all!

I mentioned this in a different thread yesterday, but: 10/18 2:26 - Sold BIDU weekly 105 calls at $5.65 10/18 2:27 - Bought BIDU at $105.37 10/19 2:17 - Sold BIDU weekly 95 puts at $1.95 Today BIDU closed at $107.28, so my stock will get called away at $105, and my short puts will expire out of the money, leaving me completely out of the position with 5.65+1.95-105.37+105=$7.23 profit per share over 4 days.

WOW!!!! What a great day.
In AM: - Bought 10,000 FAS at open (AP $22.53) - Sold 15,000 FAZ 7’ later at $12.40
Took a 3 hour nap – So tired from the stress of the market
In PM - Sold 10,000 FAS near close for $22.58 - Bought 15,000 FAZ near close at $12.39
Made $500 on my FAS trade – Only $150 on my FAZ trade but lowered my AP on FAZ by a penny.
Was able to steal another 10,000 MVIS at $1.75 – Y’all prolly didn’t see that fat finger trade.
I’m gonna party tonight like it’s 1999 (BTW, on this date in 1999, the SPX from 1,289.43 to 1,283.61 or -.45% - Another day I won’t soon forget)
Thanks for a most engaging day and can't wait to rub elbows Monday - Dave

Wow, Papasloth, I am bookmarking another one of your responses for my own options research. Thank you for posting it, with every read I get less blind when I hit the buy button.
Got out of TNA with small gain and bought...the safest thing...AXP; losing money at 39.50, 485 sh; will be forced to sell some nxt wk if it keeps dropping.
Going to a Halloween party tonight, a great weekend to all!

Real Life - FFR was level at .19%, which makes it level for the week. We remain in 'all clear' territory for the bulls. My FAS had a boring day, my spec play in the GS $165 weekly calls expired worthless. Monopoly World tracked in the blog[/u] - fairly active day here in the main account Big Cap [/b] - I consolidated into my losers on the long side and put on some new short positions to get to 77% long, 21% short, 2% cash.. account was down pretty heavily today, -4.5%. Still have a 7.6% lead over the market for now -Sold my BIDU $107.40 for 7% -Sold the rest TBT I had left $33.42 for 4.9%, was 1.5x long position -Sold my GS $158 for 8.5% -Sold my RIMM $49.04 for 4.4%, was 2.5x long position -Sold my AAPL $308.42 for -.2%, 2nd loss I've taken -Bought more CRUS $13.04 (4x long position now) avg $14.14 -Bought more CHK $21.51 (6x long position now challenging BAC for biggest) -Bought more PBR $31.81 (3x long position) -Shorted an initial position in GOLD $93.40 (I think I'm very early but just starting), 2nd go around -Shorted CMG $204.80 -Shorted CRM $108 Scalp trades, no trades - holding unrealized CHK -4.1% and FAS -.7%, acct -7.4% Options account only one small move, worked out fairly well -day traded SPY $118 weekly calls for 10%, mentioned in Timber's BIDU thread All in all, got hit pretty hard -5.4%

Bot some CIM also, similar situation. I was impressed by the mkt reaction to HTS's secondary offering...pretty much shrugged it off and back to business....looks like it was considered accretive.

No trades this week - was tempted a few times though! Employee stock holdings -3.73% for the week.. It's performance as well the fact I might get laid off soon has got my trigger finger mighty itchy on that one. Managed to make a new high, but for the most part this week has sucked on a number of levels and I'm just glad it's finally over!

Maybe that was in PM? Or ya know, you can put in a bid of anythang ya want and if some body sells to ya then there ya go. If its just a few shares then it wont affect the over all bid and ask but for a second. Market maker aint gona change it for a small transaction.

Finally made it to London and a place where I can get my laptop connected to the internet for free. Friday was an up day for me. Overall the week was down about $20k (I think) driven by the big down day on Tuesday. Nothing to worry about although it begins to look like I'll "only" net $100k this month - I absolutely most certainly definitely CAN live with that. Made a few options trades during the week - net net they cost me a little (as I wrote some call options late on Tuesday) but have the virtue of lowering my overall exposure. If I can figure it out, I'll post some Queen Mary pictures under a different threrad.

Come on you guys - Have you heard of sarcasm - My entire thread was false - Do you think I would have traded 10's of thousands shares of FAS/FAZ to generate my goal of making at least a $500 profit or to drop my AP on FAZ by a penny - I mean come on, I may be an unsophisticated trader but I ain't (what would Elle say) stoopid. I was so bored on Friday - The FAS range from Thursdays close was +.38 to -.20 and FAZ was +.10 and -.21 - I really need at least a 60 cent swing from my buy/sell targets to even consider making a trade. I threw the MVIS fake buy in to see if you guys would get the sarcasm - Hell, I couldn't even buy MVIS it didn't go low enough. No problem though that some may have slightly questioned my integrity because I truly know what a boring/frustrating day Friday was - I was just having fun and I really thought someone would have pointed out the possible sarcasm. BTW, I wasn't kidding about partying like it's 1999 last night - I flew my son back from Versailles for a surprise visit - He's on a 2 week break from his teaching gig which just so happened to correspond with 2 KC Chief home games and KU's homecoming. His girlfriend, my girlfriend, my 2 daughters and son-in-law joined us and it was possibly 1 of the most euphoric moments I have had in a long time - I am so proud of my kids and there isn't a parent who loves their kids more - They are all very good-hearted, special people and I am blessed to be their father. In the meantime, I'll try to minimize any sarcastic posts - You guys are family as well and I truly value your viewpoints and most importantly, your friendship - I hope you have a great weekend and will see you on Monday - Dave

It seems like it was a lot easier to make the odd $500 here and there (by scalping 2,000 shares for 25 cents) 6 months to a year ago. Now it seems that I have to sell options to pull in the bucks - it also helps to have a sound base position too.

Late to class again...
Sold my BIDU position for 10% gain. Waited until about 3:50 PM on Friday and then immediately bought into the following:
2080 shares of AVNR @ 2.88
85 shares of FAS @ 22.55
500 shares of BIOD @ 2.73
Big bio week again. We'll see what happens...
