From www.optionmonster.com .......................GLTA Market surge starts new trading rangeThe indexes saw a large gap up and closed just off their highs of the day. The Russell 2000 was the best performer, finishing nearly 5 percent higher. The Nasdaq 100 ended the day up more than 3.4 percent, while the S&P 500 stopped just short of 3 percent. Those are relatively rare moves in terms of size and came just as the indexes had become deeply oversold on a technical basis. We appear to be starting a new trading range with a higher low than in the last several months. All of the levels have changed significantly, in some cases returning to prices not seen for more than a week. Nasdaq 100 (NDX)Support is at 2187.46, then at 2160.20, and 2151.48 thereafter. Resistance is at 2237.13 and then at 2252.71, its 10-day moving average. On a break above the 10-day, the next resistance would be at 2283.85, its 50-day moving average. S&P 500 (SPX)All of the following support levels are new. Initial support would be at 1183.16. Thereafter it would be at 1176.41, and then at 1165.55. Initial resistance is at 1205.68, its 50-day moving average, then 1207.23, its 10-day moving average, and thereafter at 1220.25 and 1233.10. Russell 2000 (RUT)Support is at 697.03 and then at 679.73. Resistance is at 700.99, its 50-day moving average, and then at 708.05, its 10-day moving average. Above that, the next resistance would be at 723.37.

From www.optionmonster.com ............................GLTA Housing, retail, consumer data on tapToday's economic calendar highlights housing data and consumer confidence, as well as the weekly retail sales reports. At 7:45 a.m. ET, the weekly ICSC/Goldman Store Sales report will be released. There are two parts to the report, the week-over-week and year-over-year changes. Most traders focus on the year-over-year number because it better reflects the longer-term trend. The last week-over-week number came in at -0.9 percent. The year-over-year data in the previous report showed a gain of 2.8 percent. Stronger-than-expected positive numbers would be seen as bullish, while negative numbers would be bearish. The weekly Redbook Store Sales will be reported at 8:55 a.m. ET. As with the ICSC-Goldman report, there are two components to watch. One is the more volatile month-over-month change, and the other is the year-over-year change, which shows the broader trend best. The last month-over-month reading indicated a gain of 1.7 percent. The previous report's year-over-year data showed a gain of 3.7 percent. Negative numbers in either series would be bearish. At 9 a.m. ET, the S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index data comes out. The consensus forecast calls for a month-over-month change of -0.1 percent. The range for the month-over-month change is from a bearish -0.2 percent to a more bullish 0.2 percent. Yearly data is expected to come in at -3 percent, the low end of the range of estimates. The high of the range is a moderately bearish -2.7 percent. The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence data will be released at 10 a.m. ET. Consensus calls for a rise to 45 from last month's reading of 39.8. The range is from a more bearish 41 to a bullish rise to 46. A drop below last month's reading would be a negative surprise for the markets. The FHFA House Price Index also comes out at 10 a.m. ET. No change is expected from last month's reading. The range is from a bearish -0.1 percent to a bullish 0.1 percent.

So is TNA in the same situation as TVIX at the moment? (Backwardation--not sure on the exact terminology)...S&P is up .7%, but TNA is actually down .7%.
I know the small caps aren't directly tied to the 500, but usually the correlation is pretty strong. Anyone have any idea whats up?
