From www.optionmonster.com .........................GLTA Indexes remain stuck in technical limboIt was another day of relative indecision as far as the indexes went. On a relative-performance basis, the average of the action on Friday and Monday is just above zero, so there isn't anything major to update in levels. The bulls will be heartened to know that they turned a red day into a green one and closed near the session's highs. Bears will complain about the lack of apparent volume. Moving average values have been updated where necessary, but levels otherwise remain as they were Friday and Monday morning. Nasdaq 100 (NDX)Support is at 2353.36, its 10-day moving average, and below that at 2297.59, its 200-day moving average. Resistance is at 2373.82 and then at 2412.52, which is last week's pivot high. S&P 500 (SPX)Support is now at its 10-day moving average, last at 1252.57, and then at 1240.05, the previous trading range low from January to July of this year. Below the 1240 area, support would be at 1221.06. Resistance is now at its 200-day moving average, last at 1273.05. Above the 200-day, resistance would be at 1298.61 and then at 1315.94. Russell 2000 (RUT)Support at 739.86, its 10-day moving average. Below the 10-day, support would be at 713.36. Resistance is at 761 and then at 777.55, its 200-day moving average. Above the 200-day next resistance would be at 793.80.

From www.optionmonster.com ........................GLTA Retail sales, small-business index on tapToday's economic calendar includes weekly retail sales reports and a small-business sentiment index. The National Federation of Independent Business Small-Business Optimism Index is released at 7:30 a.m. ET. This report may be the most important of the day because traders are looking for any signs of improvement in sentiment among small businesses. At current levels, which are depressed, it is less likely to see any growth in jobs or investment. The consensus forecast calls for the index to come in at 89.3, a small rise from the last reading of 88.9. Estimates range from a bearish 88 to a bullish 90.2. At 7:45 a.m. ET, the weekly ICSC/Goldman Store Sales report will be released. There are two parts to the report, the week-over-week change and the year-over-year comparison. Most traders focus on the year-over-year number because it is a better indicator of the longer-term trend. The last week-over-week change came in at 0.7 percent. The year-over-year data in the previous report showed a gain of 3 percent. Stronger-than-expected positive numbers would be seen as bullish, while negative numbers would be bearish. The weekly Redbook Store Sales will be reported at 8:55 a.m. ET. As with the ICSC-Goldman report, there are two components to watch. One is the more volatile month-over-month number whlie the other is the year-over-year change, which shows the broader trend best. The last month-over-month change was a loss of -0.6 percent. The previous report's year-over-year data showed a gain of 5.2 percent. Negative numbers in either series would be bearish

Parabolic SAR is an indicator, usually showing little dots or squares above (think of bear pounding) or below (think of bull lifting) the candlestick. When there's been a divergence in price and SAR as is true of SPY in last few days, you look for a switch to confirm upward movement in price. At least, that's how I understand it. A switch today would have been another plus to the bulls, but a rejection weakens their case. I don't think I can upload a chart, I'd have to learn some trickery to do that!
