From www.optionmonster.com ............................GLTA Where do major indexes stand now?Yesterday the indexes had another extraordinary range day. These have been so frequent that traders are becoming somewhat used to them, but swings that are greater than 4 percent are obviously not normal behavior. Personally, I am trying to decide if this is the "new normal" without a clear end in sight. If that is the case, we will all need to adapt our strategies and trading tactics. At one point it did look as if all the indexes would hit new lows for the year. In the end just one of them did, the Russell 2000, which has been weak technically against its peers. While the RUT did not suffer as heavily on the day as the other indexes, it did briefly take out its August low at 639.85. It does have a bearish pattern in progress now that could suggest much deeper weakness to come. The critical level on the topside is the 660 area. A move that sticks above that area would render the current pattern inactive. Conversely, a strong move well below 639.85 could be the trigger for an acceleration to the downside. In the S&P 500, the bearish "flag" pattern we noted earlier in the week became active yesterday. The one index still holding up relatively well despite the downdraft is the Nasdaq 100. It managed to climb back above the low of its bullish price channel after breaking below it on an intraday basis. Whether it can maintain that more relatively bullish posture for long remains to be seen. All of the indexes get fresh levels for the day. In light of the potential for bigger price swings, I am foregoing index ETFs because trading distortions make levels too erratic to be reliable. That in and of itself tells us something important about current conditions. For the Nasdaq 100, first support is at 2151.18, then at 2212.84, and 2082.04. First resistance is at 2198.58, and then at 2225.40. While it has been stronger technically than the S&P 500 and the Russell 2000, the breakdown below the bullish price channel yesterday was the Nasdaq 100's first sign of weakness since the August lows. Support for the S&P 500 is at 1114.52, the low of yesterday's session. On a break below 1114.52, next supports would be at 1101.54, the August low, and then 1082.62. Resistance is at 1136.07, then 1150.70 and 1162.52. These new resistance levels were all support levels that were violated yesterday. The Russell 2000 has support at 634.71, yesterday's low. On a break down below that level, next support would be at 624.52, 616.76, and 605.69. Resistance is at 651.34, then 661.94, 681.43, and 692.91 on an extended move. The Russell tends to exhibit greater volatility, so we need to give it more latitude than the other indexes.

Alright, which one of you jokers gave BAC the Viagra today? It hit +3% while we were still slightly red,LOL! Looks like it's being cleverly throttled (manipulated) to keep fins from running of a cliff today. As market rises, it pulls back gently, as market falls back, it gets lifted again, rinse, repeat.... Kinda funny.
