From www.optionmonster.com .......................GLTA Index swings show little sign of calmingThe indexes had another day of wide ranges yesterday, though it was a bit less dramatic than recent swings. The S&P 500 and the Russell 2000 showed no signs of narrowing from their unusually broad ranges. Support for the S&P 500 is at 1176.80, then at 1155.47 and 1138.75. Resistance is at 1190.61, its 10-day moving, then at 1218.11 and 1230.71, the most recent pivot high for the index. The Russell 2000 has support at 681.43, then at 664.3 and 650.01. Resistance is at 702.33, its 10-day moving average, then 718.63 and 724.71. The Nasdaq 100 had a much smaller range day than the Russell or the S&P 500, so I will resume our traditional format for the tech-laden index. But note that the levels are still spaced quite a bit more widely than usual. That reflect the very wide price channel the index is moving within. Nasdaq 100 (NDX)First support is at 2154.17. First resistance is at 2237.55. For the PowerShares QQQ (QQQ) first support is at $52.98. First resistance is at $55.27.

From www.optionmonster.com ...........................GLTA Trading hinges on reaction to ObamaThere is only one report on the economic calendar, wholesale trade, but it isn't as likely to be the focus of today's markets. The bulk of debate and market reaction will center on last night's jobs speech by President Obama and the upcoming G8 meeting. Wholesale Trade data will be released at 10 a.m. ET. The report has two components, which are inventories and sales. The ideal is for sales to outpace or match growth in inventories. The most bearish outcome is for sales to fall behind inventory growth and for sales to be weaker than consensus, suggesting the potential for an inventory glut. The consensus forecast calls for inventories to grow by 0.8 percent. Estimates range from growth of 0.2 percent at the low, and 1.2 percent at the high. Sales are forecast to also grow by 0.8 percent. The range is from 0.3 percent growth to a high target of 1.6 percent.
