From www.optionmonster.com ...................GLTA Indexes unchanged following Monday's The indexes took a pause on Monday, finishing virtually flat on the session, so none of the levels have changed. While our markets were calm, the Monday session in Europe was another in a long string of wild rides. As a result, it is premature to presume U.S. markets have dodged the volatility bullet. I am leaving a discussion of levels wide open, with plenty of latitude for much larger than normal swings. The key for the bulls right now remains the low point of two weeks ago, which I have discussed in prior notes. If that can hold, it is a big technical positive. If we break through those lows, we are looking at the potential for another push to the downside. For the Nasdaq 100, support is at 2034.92. If that support level is broken, 1997.67 would be next, and then 1963.68. On the upside, resistance is at 2060.29, 2091.91, and then at 2118.61. The S&P 500 has support at 1119.28, and then the low of two weeks ago at 1101.54. Below that two-week low, the next major support is at the 1080 area. Resistance is at 1131.87, and then at 1157.16. For the Russell 2000 support remains at 650.96, and then 639.85, the low from two weeks ago. A break below that level would be followed by support at 626.43. Resistance is at 684.27, which is its 10-day moving average, and then at 690.53.

From www.optionmonster.com ....................GLTA Retail data, home sales on the agendaThe calendar is light for today in a week already thin on economic reports. We will get the regular weekly retail sales data as well as new home sales. On Friday GDP data will be released along with consumer sentiment, both of which will be watched closely. The weekly ICSC/Goldman Store Sales report comes out at 7:45am ET. There are two parts to the report, the week-over-week change and the year-over-year change. Most traders focus on the year-over-year number as it is a better indicator of the longer-term trend. The prior week-over-week change was -1.5 percent. The year-over-year data in the previous report showed a gain of 3.5 percent. Stronger-than-expected positive numbers would be seen as bullish, while negative numbers would be bearish. The weekly Redbook Store Sales will be reported at 8:55am ET. As with the ICSC-Goldman report, the month-over-month change is more volatile, while the year-over-year change reflects the broader trend. So, most traders focus on the year-over-year portion of the report for that reason. The prior month-over-month change was a gain of 0.6 percent. The previous report's year-over-year data showed a gain of 4.7 percent. Negative numbers in either series would be bearish. New Home Sales data comes out at 10am ET. Consensus calls for a small drop in unit sales, down to 0.31 million from the previous month's 0.312 million. The range of forecasts for the release is from a bearish drop down to 0.29 million and up to a bullish 0.33 million.
