From www.optionmonster.com .....................GLTA Russell 2000 hit hard in huge swingsThe indexes traded in an extraordinarily broad range yesterday. In the pre-market yesterday the index futures were trading up better than 1 percent on hopes the debt-ceiling debacle would soon be resolved. Soon after the open, a particularly bad ISM manufacturing number and a new wrinkle in the European sovereign debt crisis sent the indexes down by more than 1 percent at the lows. By session end, losses had moderated to fractional drops in price. The Russell 2000 was hit hardest. Traders should keep in mind that, while the bulk of earnings are out of the way for the S&P 500, the RUT has many names yet to report and will therefore tend to swing more dramatically in coming weeks. The price moves in the Nasdaq 100 was strong enough that the levels we started with yesterday morning have not changed for today. The S&P 500 and the Russell 2000 get new support levels. Resistance has changed for the S&P 500, with a drop down to its 50-day moving average. The Russell's resistance level has just been adjusted to reflect the new moving average value for the day. Although technically the 200-day moving average for the Russell is immediate resistance, it is so close to where the index finished the day that it makes more sense for the time being to keep it at the 50-day. Nasdaq 100 (NDX)First support is at 2342.13. First resistance is at 2384.50. For the PowerShares QQQ (QQQ) first support is at $57.46. First resistance is at $58.50. S&P 500 (SPX)First support is at 1285.41, its 200-day moving average. First resistance is at 1308.01, its 50-day moving average. For the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) first support is at $128.70, its 200-day moving average. First resistance is at $130.97, its 50-day moving average. Russell 2000 (RUT)First support is at 783.17. First resistance is at 815.48, its 50-day moving average. For the iShares Trust Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM) first support is at $78.14. First resistance is at $81.54, its 50-day moving average.

From www.optionmonster.com ..........GLTA Cars, retail sales, income on calendarToday's economic calendar includes the weekly retail sales reports, motor vehicle sales, and personal income and spending. The auto sales reports have no fixed timetable for releases. Each company makes its report individually, typically beginning no later than noon ET. Ford, General Motors, Tata Motors, Toyota, and Honda are likely to be active before, during, and after the releases. At 7:45 a.m. ET, the weekly ICSC/Goldman Store Sales report will be released. There are two parts to the report, the week-over-week and the year-over-year changes. Most traders focus on the year-over-year number as it is a better indicator of the longer-term trend. The last week-over-week change came in at a gain of 0.3 percent. The year-over-year data in the previous report showed a gain of 4.2 percent. Stronger-than-expected positive numbers would be seen as bullish, while negative numbers would be bearish. Personal Income and Outlays data comes out at 8:30 a.m. ET. Both income and spending are expected to show a gain of 0.2 percent. That would be considered a balanced outcome where spending does not outstrip income increases. At the low end of the range for income, a drop of -0.2 percent is expected; at the high end of spending, a gain of 0.4 percent is expected. That would be a bearish outcome where spending is outpacing income growth, which would suggest that consumers are cash-strapped going forward. At the high end of income, a gain of 0.4 percent is expected, while at the low end of consumption a drop of -0.3 percent is forecast. This would be bearish at least temporarily for the previous month but would suggest that consumers have breathing room for spending in the future as incomes outpace consumption--and that might be seen as longer-term bullish. The weekly Redbook Store Sales will be reported at 8:55 a.m. ET. As with the ICSC-Goldman report, there are two components to watch. One is the more volatile month-over-month change and the other is the year-over-year change, which shows the broader trend best. The last month-over-month change was a loss of -0.6 percent. The previous report's year-over-year data showed a gain of 3.5 percent. Negative numbers in either series would be bearish.
