From www.optionmonster.com ............................GLTA Indexes hinge on employment reportJanuary 7, 2011 Fri 12:03 AM CT Traders have been waiting all week for today's release of the Employment Situation report. With the indexes either near resistance or at minor new highs, as is the Nasdaq 100, the news will be the directional driver. There is something potentially more interesting going on for the NDX in particular. We may be seeing a shift of leadership in semiconductors that has not happened in a very long time. The move by Microsoft to embrace Nvidia chips, which in turn uses ARM Holdings technology, has seen NVDA eclipse Intel as a trading vehicle. If this becomes a real trend, it could have major consequences for the index. Nasdaq 100 (NDX)First support is at 2268.30. First resistance is at 2307.27. For the Nasdaq 100 Index Tracking Stock (QQQQ) first support is at $55.69. First resistance is at $57.24. S&P 500 (SPX)First support is at 1268.66. First resistance is at 1276.17. For the Standard & Poor's Depository Receipts (SPY) first support is at $126.71. First resistance is at $127.60. Russell 2000 (RUT)First support is at 770.51. First resistance is at 799.57. For the iShares Trust Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM) first support is at $77.21. First resistance is at $79.84. By: Bryan McCormick

From www.optionmonster.com ..............................GLTA Job report, Fed officials top calendarJanuary 7, 2011 Fri 12:01 AM CT Based on the economic calendar, it is likely to be an interesting day. The much-anticipated Employment Situation Report at 8:30 a.m. ET will be bookended by comments from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke in the Senate and Janet Yellen, vice chair of the central bank, at the American Economic Association. Expectations have grown significantly for the Employment Situation Report since the big positive surprise in the ADP Payrolls data on Wednesday. Consensus estimates call for non-farm payrolls, the headline number, to come in at 175,000. Private payrolls are forecast to be slightly above the headline number at 180,000. The low end of the range for both is nearly identical, with non-farms seen at 90,000 and privates at 85,000. In light of the big ADP numbers, anything close to the low end of estimates would be a big disappointment. Since the ADP report came out, the top-end of the range has expanded for both to 350,000. That number would likely be very bullish. Consumer Credit will be reported at 3 p.m. ET. The forecast is for credit to expand by $1 billion. The range is from a -$8 billion contraction, which would be bearish, to an expansion of $6.9 billion in borrowings. Borrowing would be seen as bullish at this stage in the recovery, showing that consumers are willing to take on debt for purchases. By: Bryan McCormick

From ETF Porphet................REACTION DAY..........................GL Breadth came in at 2,300 gainers to 3,300 declines. The bears made a small dent. Once again, the stronger dollar hurt oil, gold and commodities. Weak same-store sales data hurt retailers, but the semiconductor and pharmaceutical did well. Tomorrow will be driven by the monthly jobs report with expectations quite high after the ADP report. There are some very big whisper numbers floating around online, so the risk of disappointment is quite high. Even if the numbers are solid, one has to wonder how much has been priced in after 5 straight up week. On the other hand, the dip buyers will continue to be hungry on another big POMO day. Hi, all.
Carl F:
March S&P E-mini Futures: Today's range estimate is 1260-1272. I think a top building process is underway and will be followed by a drop of 50 points. Once it is complete the market will resume its advance to 1300.
Caldaro:
For the day the SPX/DOW were -0.20%, and the NDX/NAZ were +0.30%. Bonds gained 20 ticks, Crude lost $1.95, Gold slipped $2.00, and the USD was higher. Support for the SPX remains at 1261 and then 1240, with resistance at 1291 and then 1303. Short term momentum displayed a negative divergence at today’s high. Tomorrow, the monthly Payrolls report with the Unemployment rate at 8:30. Then Consumer credit at 3:00. At the open FED chairman Bernanke gives Senate testimony, and at 1:30 FED governor Duke gives a speech in Balt. MD.
After retesting the uptrend high at SPX 1278 early today the market staged one of its typical pullbacks. There was not enough on the downside to confirm an end to Minute wave three. So we continue to estimate that small wave is still ongoing despite what appears to be five waves up from the SPX 1254 Minute wave two low. This market appears to be getting a bit more choppier as it works its way higher. This pattern may continue until the final uptrend high is in place. Best to your trading!

That or a convergence trade between SLW and PAAS, short paas and long slw.

According to Cobra:
"SHORT-TERM: COULD SEE MORE ON THE UPSIDE
Nothing to say. The intraday pattern looks like a Symmetrical Triangle, so we could see one more push up tomorrow. Also mentioned in today’s After Bell Quick Summary, not only tomorrow is so called Bullish Friday but also the Non Farm Payroll day is generally bullish.
Four things for your attention:
1.The ISEE Equities Only Index closed above 300 again which is way too bullish. Well, I know, who cares. 2.Don’t forget the 2 setups mentioned in 11/05 Market Recap, at least the volume pattern setup has been met as long as the week close in green. 3.Surprisingly, the ETF table below now has 4 out of 6 short signals. 4.The general pattern for tomorrow’s Non Farm Payroll day is open high goes lower or open low goes higher. The chart below is from Bespoke."

the thing that has blown my mind recently is the ISEE Equities only index, its been crazy and so wildly bullish for weeks now that it makes no sense, how much longer can this go on?
