Looking at the various sectors, appears to be Opex Confusion as positions start to get unwound, both long and short. The bear case is there are no shorts left, so the market is bottomless now. The bull case is it's been buy the dip for over a year.
I hate 3X etf's during Opex week. But selective shorting or longing can still be lucrative on specific stocks... just watch out for the decay monster both ways.

JPMorgan Chase (JPM) may show a decline in net income when it reports Q1 earnings tomorrow. Mortgage writedowns may be as high as $2.5B per quarter during 2010, compared with $8.3B in all of 2009.
Oh dear. 85% of the improvement in profits is from banks.

Is it true the banksters from WAMU are testifying today in DC? That could bring some market slack.

nice reversal in S. Now printing a daily black bar. Day is young but be careful. It pierced the upper BB while ramming CCI through 200. Trend is certainly bullish overall.

11:00 IMF proposes taxing derivative dealers in lieu of clearing mandate - DJ
DJ reports the International Monetary Fund cautioned Tuesday against new legislation that would force dealer banks to clear their swap trades, and instead urged policymakers to consider imposing a risk-based tax on dealers as an alternative way to encourage central clearing. The IMF's suggestion differs from proposals under consideration both by the U.S. Congress and the European Commission which would force banks to submit some of their routine contracts to a clearinghouse, which guarantees trades for both parties in case one side defaults. "A mandate to centrally clear standardized contracts is a less desirable solution because the need to post potentially large amounts of margin will be disruptive if done at once," the IMF said in one of the chapters that form part of the semi-annual Global Financial Stability Report. "However, if other incentives do not generate enough movement, a mandate may be necessary to overcome market participant fears of being first movers."

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. on Tuesday voted to propose assessing higher periodic fees on large, risky financial institutions and lower fees for some smaller, less risky banks.
"The intent is to assess risk during the entire credit cycle," said FDIC chairman Sheila Bair. "It deters excessive risk taking during economic expansions."

My suspicion based on the Opex action: Not gonna fall much. They're screwing the covered call sellers, who will have their shares yanked to give to the call buyers.
Both will lose soon after opex. Long Calls who took shares will see a fast devaluation and an island reversal. Short calls will lose their shares but be forced to buy in higher (to have something to sell against) and will see devlatuions that can't be made up by mere call selling.

After 2h, SRS daily vol already > yesterday's. Spy vol more than half yesterday's.
You must buy the dip. The dip is your friend. The road to nirvana is lined with shallow dips and burned out inverse etfs.
